Is Mary mother of Jesus even important?

WHY DO WE HAVE TO BOTHER ABOUT HER? IS MARY, THAT IMPORTANT?

As you probably already know, I was born and raised a catholic and etc.. but there is something I want to say about this Lady. I am aware that it may shock a lot of  people and that many will not agree with me; but I will say my mind!
Lady in question is not a complete stranger to anyone in the christian faith and even in the Muslim faith, she is Mary mother of Jesus. Catholics seem to have carried this "woman on their head" as we would say and this has led to (for me) unnecessary arguments between Catholics and non-catholic. It would not be unreasonable (sincerely) for a Christian  to ask why so much fuss about a woman whom the bible reported to have spoken ONLY 4TIMES? Is she that important? St Paul, who did not even meet Jesus when he was living in the flesh features more in the Bible than Mary. So why all the fuss? Well let us see
Well, it is as simple as this- the fact that the foundation of a sky scrapper is beyond the reach of the eyes of the admirers of the building itself, does not mean that it is unimportant. The bible seems to be almost silent about Mary, just as as it is silent about first 30 years of Jesus on earth. Well I am beginning to think that God, the Editor in chief of the Good Book wanted to teach us something by it; a lesson which most Christians seem to have forgotten- Humility and True Submission.

WHAT DOES THE BIBLE TELL US ABOUT MARY

The first time the Blessed Virgin Mary spoke in the Bible, was at the Annunciation (Lk 1:26-38). The reply she gave in verse 38 is a testament to the fact that not only had she accepted The Call, but that she had decided to live a life of total submission to God.

The next time the Bible records her saying, was at the Visitation (luke 1:39-56). There, she uttered a
song of praise to God known as the Magnificat  Luke 1:46-55 (centuries before Don Moen, she sang an extended version of "BE Magnified"). That piece is laden with allusions to the old testament. The composition of The Magnificat shows Mary's great knowledge of the scripture and her understanding of the concept of Humility.

 WHAT DOES MARY TEACH US?

Mary's knowledge of the Scripture was sound enough for her to establish herself as a teacher and possibly lead her people into a rebellion against the Roman occupants (the in-thing at the time) and be like Deborah of old; but she did not. She might have been beautiful enough to get herself married into any of the prominent Royal families at the time and stand a chance to be a Queen like Esther; but she chose not to. She had the right to ask Jesus for anything with the assurance that he was bound by law to obey her; but when she did ask , it was in advocating that he manifests himself as God and save a couple from disgrace (John 2:3). She could have, after the death of Jesus, sought to establish herself in the Church eclipsing St Peter, thus, becoming like Athaliah but she did not. Mary chose to be silence.
She had mastered the art of preaching the Word in silence and in good works. She preached by bearing the Word made flesh Mary pioneered the concept of Christianity that St Francis would voice centuries later- "preach always but sometimes with words". Mary knew that to serve God she needed not to be in the limelight. She understood that true humility consists in knowing your place and sticking to the seemingly simple tasks that God gives us, even if it is obvious that we are made for more. she teaches us that for the future generations to thrive, someone has to do the work today, away from public sight. she understood that for the foundation to be strong, it had to be buried deep in the ground away from reach of the human eyes. She knew that for the event to be flawless on stage in Jerusalem, someone had to put in some serious effort backstage in Nazareth. She encourages to work for God even if it is away from the applause of the public just for love of Him.
Mary teaches us to hold unto the seeds of faith in God's secret garden, so that they might blossom into healthy plants in the future and possibly become the trees under which generations, yet to come might find shade.
A lot of Christians today feel that they need to be at the helm of affairs to change things, but we learn from Mary that no matter where we are on the echelons of society we can make our mark. We can serve God and answer his call in our life regardless of where we are or the number of likes and followers we have on Facebook and Instagram.

...SO IS MARY IMPORTANT?

Absolutely! The word important itself is not enough to say how important Mary is to our faith! From her we learn to serve God even when we are unseen and not attended by the applause of a large crowd. Through her, his best and most faithful student, God shows us practically how to obey God even though we can speak in tongues of men and tongues of angels; even though we have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all wisdom (1 Cor 13: 1-2); even if archangels themselves appear to us and call us Highly favored and tell us that God is with us (Luke 1:28) . If we are called, we mustn't run out of the system that he has placed over us in order to answer him. We can serve God even in the backstage of another servant of God, we can answer his call by obeying the authorities he has place over us (Rom 13:1). We can serve God  and preach Christ by simply bearing Him in ourselves and following him faithfully. Mary is the stellar example of the standards of Christian life . Failing to know her and learn from her has led to a misunderstanding of  true Christian life. Like her, let us strive to serve God whether we are in Jerusalem or in Nazareth.
